No excuse

I am full of excuses. We all are. We make excuses for everything. We make excuses for not exercising, we make excuses for for not going to work, we make excuses for not going to church, we make excuses for not cleaning the house…and it goes on and on!
I am notorious for excuses. I make excuses for not doing something my lovely, patient (ha, Ha) wife has asked me to do. I even make excuses for a bad golf shot…it could not be any fault of my own, right!
Why do we make excuses? I make them because I don’t want to take responsibility for a mistake or just pure laziness. We make excuses to avoid doing things that we don’t want to do but know really needs to be done.
The problem with living your life full of excuses is that people get tired of them. They come to expect them from you and in turn come to expect less and less from you.
The even bigger problem is living our spiritual life full of excuses. God expects a lot out of his children and when we give excuses to Him we are not living up to the potential or the purpose that God has intended for us.
He clearly states in John that we have no excuse for our sin…If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no EXCUSE for their sin. (John 15:22 NIV). That pretty much lays it out there for us…if you have heard, and if you live in the United States there is a pretty good chance you have heard, then you have no excuse for your sin!
My challenge to you, but more myself, is to start living life without excuses. There are going to be times when you have to do something you don’t want to do. There are going to be times when you have to just admit that things were your fault and not some crazy outside force that caused it. You are going to have to finally get real with God and stop giving Him excuses for your sin.
When you stop using excuses in your life and your relationship with God, your potential and purpose will start to shine through and you can start living the life of excellence that God has planned.

Just Keep Livin’
